Why not a local SIM or roaming?
Internet in Bali and Indonesia
Indonesia's biggest mobile operator is Telkomsel; Indosat and XL are the other big ones. Bali (Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud) has good 4G coverage. On Nusa Penida, the Gili islands and in the mountains it can be weaker.
Indonesia isn't in the EU. EU roaming doesn't apply there, so an EU mobile plan charges data at its operator's roaming rates. A local SIM has to be registered with your passport. With an eSIM you're online at Denpasar airport and can book a Grab or Gojek ride straight away.
Good to know before you go to Indonesia
- On boats between islands and on remote beaches the signal can be weaker.
- On a two- or three-week trip an unlimited plan is easier than a fixed amount of data.
